Godfrey, IL — The Lady Statesmen travelled to Godfrey, Illinois to face Illinois Central College (ICC) in the District Quarterfinal match. The Lady Cougars got on the score sheet first, taking the 1-0 lead. Late in the first half, ICC were able to double their lead to 2-0 and retained the lead into half time. In the second half, the Lady Statesmen responded with a brilliant goal, a shot from the distance by #11 Isabella Granja to lessen the deficit to 2-1. With so much on the line, both teams continued to fight for the victory. The Lady Cougars were later awarded a penalty, which they stepped up and put into the back of the net to regain their two-goal lead. The task of coming back in the match became dauntingly huge for the Lady Statesmen, and a fourth goal by ICC saw all hopes of a comeback lost for Lincoln Trail.
The Lady Statesmen finish their season 6-8-2, having fought through so much adversity this season, but remaining strong and positive throughout.
Thank you everyone for their support this season!
