Important win as Statesmen start Region Competition

Robinson, IL - After starting the season with two victories the Statesmen were looking to keep their momentum going at home Sunday afternoon. The Statesmen started with a lot of energy putting a shot on goal in the 10th minute by #21 Benjamin Pena . Keeping up the pressure the Statesmen put a string of passes together finding #19 Harumi Yunaiyama pushing to the endline before he cut it back into the box where #10 Ryosuke Miyata fired it in low to put the Statesmen up 1-0.

The first half would end with that scoreline as the Statesmen kept up the pressure and intensity going into halftime.

Going into the second half the game became increasingly chippy and yellow cards were given out to both teams several times. The intensity continued as the Statesmen looked to put the game away with Bascone putting a shot on target in the 71st minute before the 75th minute when #24 Amin Garcia chipped a lovely ball through on goal to #9 Guilherme Melciori who dribbled around the keeper before slotting it low and in to put the Statesmen up 2-0

The intensity only continued to increase from there with an increase of fouls as well as players from both teams suffering from leg cramps and needing substitutions frequently throughout the final 15 minutes.

Momentum looked to be shifting the Cougars way in the 79th minute when they were awarded a penalty in the Statesmen's box but #1 Gonzalo Onrubia made a massive foot save to keep the game at 2-0!

The Cougars would continue the pressure and were able to get one goal back before the final whistle ending the contest in a 2-1 win for your Statesmen!

That win brings the Statesmen's record to 3-0-0 on the season with a goal difference of 19 for and only 3 against.

Their next game will be this Wednesday in Terre Haute against Rose Hulman.

Thank you all for your continued support and GO Statesmen!
