Statesmen Drops First Away Game

Statesmen Drops First Away Game

Terre Haute, IN - On Wednesday of this week (August 30th) the Statesmen traveled to Terre Haute to take on their first NCAA Division III opponent of the year in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Statesmen arrived on the heels of a thrilling victory over their regional rival Illinois Central College and were looking to continue their solid start to the season.

With injuries and frequency of games, Lincoln Trail put out a new starting lineup to face the Fighting Engineers of RH so there were some shaky minutes to start the game. Things started to pick up in the 23rd minute. The Statesmen had the first shot on target of the game when #18 Inchun Han cut into the box from the left wing and fired a shot low but directly toward the goal keeper. From this shot on the Engineers knew that Lincoln Trail was there for a fight.

The rest of the first half continued with energy in the middle of the field with both teams continuing to try and find a way through each other's defensive lines but neither were able to find another shot on goal in the first half.

After the 65th minute your Statesmen started to turn up the pressure raising their intensity to a new level and commanding the game. In the 74th minute #9 Guilherme Melchiori found his way through the defense and fired a shot low but again to the keeper. Gui would have several other chances throughout the second half but none on target as they continued to press the Engineers backline pushing for the breakthrough.

The game continued to get more and more intense as time wound down with the Statesmen firing shots on goal in the 86th, 88th, and 90th minute from #24 Amin Garcia (2), and #10 Ryosuke Miyata

Sadly for your Statesmen, in the 89th and 90th minute the Engineers were able to put away two easy chances with more freedom against the LT backline due to the increase in attacking pressure. These brought the score to 0-2 and was how the game would end, giving your Statesmen their first loss of the season and bringing their record for the season to 3-1.

The Statesmen's next game will be on the road again at East Central College this coming Saturday (September 2) at 4 p.m. CDT.

Many of the Women's team traveled to the game and we are so grateful for the support from them but also from all our fans!

Go Statesmen!
