Lincoln Trail Softball Becomes Victorious Against Wabash Valley

On April 20, 2023, Lincoln Trail Softball took on Wabash Valley in a triple header, after their second game got postponed due to weather on March 16th in Mount Carmel. The teams played with fierce intensity, but it was Lincoln Trail that emerged victorious after hard-fought match-ups.

The first game of the triple header saw Wabash Valley take the lead with three runs in the first inning. Lincoln Trail's offense was not content to allow their opponents to dictate the pace of the game and quickly pulled together, with notable performances by Mikayla Schooling, Katy Crail, Kaitlyn Boerngen, and Lilly Foster. Delainey Shorter hit a crucial home run, lending the team tremendous momentum. Pitcher Halle Ellis and the defense also put up an excellent show, preventing all but one more run from happening, and Lincoln Trail ultimately won the first game with a score of 5-4.

This first win against Wabash Valley is an essential boost for Lincoln Trail Softball team for the rest of the day. 

For the second game, the game seemed to swing in favor of Wabash Valley as they led with five points, and only two innings remained. Combatting the disadvantage, Lincoln Trail's sophomores Mikayla Schooling and Tori Linnenkamp, delivered an outstanding display and scored two runs each. The pressure was high, and the team needed a hero to step up. Halle Ellis, Alexia Heafner, Addie Brasier, Lilly Foster, and Kaitlyn Boerngen were up to the task, and together, they clawed back the points, resulting in a 9-8 victory for Lincoln Trail College.

But the day didn't stop there for Lincoln Trail, one more game to go and the strive for the last victory was obvious. 

The team's pitcher Kendal Edmonson delivered a masterful performance, holding Wabash Valley to zero runs until the last inning. Though Wabash Valley was able to score two runs in the last inning, the lead proved insurmountable. By then, Mikayla Schooling, Delainey Shorter, Stormy Kinnard, and Caeden Bennett had already crossed home plate, securing the win for Lincoln Trail College. Lincoln Trail College's defensive performance was outstanding, enabling Edmondson to strike out nine of Wabash Valley College's batters. With such skillful execution, the team felt ready for whatever their opponents were going to throw at them.
