Lincoln Trail College Softball Splits on Sophomore Day

Lincoln Trail College's softball team celebrated their sophomore day with a doubleheader against Southeastern Illinois College (SIC) on Sunday. The day saw a split in results, with Lincoln Trail dropping the first game 0-2 but coming back strong to claim victory in the second game.

In the opening game, SIC's batters faced off against Lincoln Trail's pitcher Kyndal Brewer, resulting in a hard-fought contest that ended in a narrow loss for Lincoln Trail.

However, in game two, Lincoln Trail displayed determination. They quickly got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Delainey Shorter doubled and Kendal Edmondson followed up with a single. A crucial error by Southeastern alloweing both runners to score, giving Lincoln Trail an early lead.

The momentum continued in the bottom of the second inning when Shorter blasted a home run to Centerfield, bringing Stormy Kinnard across home plate. The offensive onslaught didn't stop there, as Bailey Duke added to the scoreline with a homerun in the bottom of the third inning.

As the game progressed, Shorter remained a force to be reckoned with, sending another run to centerfield in the sixth inning. Kendal Edmondson and Addie Brasier also contributed by keeping pressure on SIC's batters.

When the final out was recorded, Lincoln Trail emerged victorious with a final score of 8-5. Shorter led the charge with 3 runs, supported by Kinnard with two, and Duke, Foster, and Edmondson each adding one.

After the SIC game, Coaches Erica Arnold, Ron Miller, and Tana Coleman honored ten sophomores: Kaitlyn Boerngen, Lydia Copenhaver, Autumn Kelly, Lilly Foster, Kendal Edmondson, Katy Crail, Delainey Shorter, Caeden Bennett, Addie Brasier, and Stormy Kinnard. Over their two years at Lincoln Trail, these sophomores collectively achieved impressive stats, including 382 runs, 525 hits, and 152 strikeouts.
