Robinson, IL - After last week's thrilling home-opener victory, the Lady Statesmen returned to the field on Sunday afternoon against the #19 ranked Lady Cougars of Illinois Central College (ICC). The Lady Statesmen fought hard but fell short against a strong Lady Cougars team, conceding one goal in each half, which led to the Lady Statesmen first loss of the season by 2-0.
ICC got on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute, taking advantage of open space on top of the box as Isabella Guerra received a pass from Louisa Bruns and under no pressure placed the shot to the bottom left corner of the goal to score the first goal. The second goal came on a freekick taken by Louisa Bruns in the 50th minute, a shot which went under the goalkeeper's body in an attempt to make a save.
The Lady Statesmen had some close scoring opportunities with shots on goal coming from Trinity Arroyo and Isabella Granja . Although faced with injuries throughout the match, the Lady Statesmen show strength as they continued to defend strongly in the second half leading to a scoreless second half.
The Lady Statesmen, now 1-1 on the season, will return to action this upcoming Saturday, as they travel to St. Louis, MO to face East Central College.
