Back from Tennessee with a win

Memphis, TN — The Lady Statesmen returned to action on the road, as they travelled from Robinson to Memphis, to face the Lady Saluqis of Southwest Tennessee Community College. It was a hard-fought match in high temperatures, but the Lady Statesmen were able to cool off the heat. The opening goal came at the 16th minute, sophomore, #10 Guadalupe Amicone played a pass through to #7 Eduarda Queiroz , who was able to beat the defenders and goalkeeper to take the lead. The Lady Statesmen continued to attack and applied pressure to the opposition throughout the half but were unable to finish any other chances and the score remained unchanged through the remainder of the first half. In the second half, the Lady Statesmen continued to get into dangerous spaces in the opponent's half as they looked to double their lead. In the 76th minute, #18 Gabriella Chagas was able to find the net to double the lead, it was her first game back in action, after missing the last several games with a knee injury. The goal would turn out to be a crucial one, being the game winner, as the Lady Saluqis were able to score a goal a minute later. The Lady Statesmen defense was able to hold up and protect the one goal lead and take the road victory.

The Lady Statesmen are now 5-4-1 on the season and will travel to Peoria to face regional rival Illinois Central College on Sunday, October 8, 2023.
