Layne Hits an Unforgettable Home Run

Layne Hits an Unforgettable Home Run

Sunday, September 3rd, The Statesmen played under the lights at Busch Stadium. When colleges play the "amateur game" at Busch Stadium there are certain rules to be implemented, including that the game will last 2.5 hours or 9 innings, whichever comes first. The Statesmen had taken an early lead against Lincoln Land Community College but that however did not last as the Loggers battled to pull ahead.

After the announcer said, "20 minutes left" and the team approached the bottom of the ninth inning, their turn to bat, a different level of energy hit the team.

Freshman Maxwell Layne was up to bat, hitting a home run against the Loggers that will be remembered at Lincoln Ttrail College. The atmosphere was electric as the ball soared high and far, marking a memorable moment in the game's history, the first amateur game home run being scored at Busch Stadium, according to the security guards. This was Layne's first college home run as well. Layne's home run was not just a personal victory but a shining moment for his team.

Layne not only got to keep the ball he hit, but he also got a certificate of his accomplishment from the Cardinals.
