Statesmen and Archers Finish With a Tie

Statesmen and Archers Finish With a Tie

St. Louis, MO - On Wednesday your Statesmen traveled back down to St. Louis to take on the Archers of St. Louis Community College. The Statesmen have had a wonderful start to their season and looked to continue their good form crossing the halfway point in their schedule.

Things looked to be getting off to a good start when #21 Benjamin Pena won a penalty for your Statesmen darting in from the right hand side and cutting in front of the defender before being pulled down. #9 Guilherme Melciori would step up and fire the ball to the goalkeeper's left side putting your Statesmen up 1-0 in the first half and bringing his season goal tally to 7 and tying him for the team lead along with #10 Ryosuke Miyata

The energy would only continue to increase as the Statesmen would get on the board again when #3 Sergio Alvarez played an inch perfect pass through the defense to #24 Amin Garcia who slammed the ball to the far post out of the goalkeeper's reach to put your Statesmen up 2-0 heading into halftime and giving Alvarez his first assist of the season.

Moving into the second half, the intensity of the game only continued to grow and yellow cards were issued to both sides but the fouls continued leading to several long breaks in play and many changes in momentum. The Archers would jump on these changes scoring twice from free kicks tying the game with under 15 minutes left to play.

Your Statesmen would not go home without a fight though as they continued to put more and more pressure on the Archers defensive line firing several shots over the goal and several more on frame forcing tough saves from the Archer goalkeeper. #7 Leo Sanches had one of the best opportunities of the day when he cut into the middle of the pitch onto his favored left foot and ripped a shot from 30 yards to the top corner but it was just tipped by the Archer keeper keeping the score at 2-2.

That was how the game would end as the new rules for this year ended the game after regulation in a tie bringing your Statesmen's record to 6-1-1 on the season as they prepare for a ten day break in their schedule Their next game will be on the road yet again back in St. Louis when they travel to take on regional opponent Lewis and Clark Community College again and look to lock up a hosting opportunity for the regional tournament.

Thank you to all our fans, and supporters! The second half of the season promises to be eventful as we grind towards the postseason!

As always, Go Statesmen, and ROLL TRAIL!
